About the Role

Wind Turbine Blade Repair Technician - Level 2 / Level 3

Level 2 technicians will be responsible for the internal and external inspections, defect analysis, and Category 1-3 repair of fiberglass and composite blades, hub/nose cone, and nacelles from all categories. Level 2 technicians should be willing to train level 1 technicians on minor category 1-3 repairs.

Level 3 technicians will be responsible for the internal and external inspections, defect analysis, and Category 1-5 repair of fiberglass and composite blades, hub/nose cone, and nacelles from all categories with no supervision. Level 3 technicians must be willing and able to train level 1 & 2 technicians on all Category 1-5 repairs. Level 3 technicians will also have added responsibilities, such as blade document review and submission to the Operations Manager and Engineering team, as well as daily reporting of team’s time on site via the daily work report (DWR).

This position requires 100% travel.

Requirements


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


Inspect and photograph internal & external blade damage, document findings, and assemble all associated paperwork as required to be posted for further action by Engineering.

Perform coating and minor structural repairs on internal and external blade surfaces, tip repair, leading and trailing edge repair while following guidelines provided by Engineering.

Utilize blade access platforms at heights of 300ft or more.

Help in all areas of site preparation (i.e. coordination of labour and materials) with minimal supervision.

Document all work performed using mobile-based service reporting procedures. 

Communicate site status to engineering, customers, and management.

Provide wind turbine generator LOTO (Lock Out & Tag Out) support.

Rigging and derigging experience.

Understand lamination principles and post-curing.

Ability and willingness to work, weekends and overtime as required by field assignments.

Ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions.


Educational requirement: Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, preference given to those with Renewable Energy education


Training and Certifications - Arc Flash/NFPA70E, Confined Space & Rescue, GWO BST or Equivalent (Fire Awareness, First Aid & CPR/AED, Manual Handling, Tower / High Angle Rescue), OSHA 10, Respirator Fit Testing


Preference will be given to those with GWO BST and BR certifications, as well as those Hoisting & Rigging Training. Technicians MUST be fully certified prior to being assigned to a project.


Experience of 2+ years in blade inspections, working with suspended platforms, blade repair and repair materials, and a thorough understanding of the laminating process and wind blade composition.


Successful candidates must pass a background and motor vehicle record check, and possess a valid driver's license.


Work conditions are physically demanding, including but not limited to bending, crouching, kneeling, standing for extended periods, and handling heavy loads. The position requires attention to detail, good teamwork & communication skills, and  the ability to work under pressure. Further, technicians will be required to work at heights, in noisy environments, confined spaces.


Transportation to and from worksites within the US will be provided.
